Friday Feature: Fairest Fangirling!

OK, so I know I’m a few days behind with this news but I didn’t have a feature lined up for today, (I should be doing the final part of the Best Children’s Books of the Last 100 Years – but I’ve ran out of blogging time) and I just need to do some delayed fangirling for a second.

Earlier in the week Marissa Meyer released details of Fairest, a spin-off novel to the Lunar Chronicles dedicated to our favourite villain Queen Levana.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Fangirls unite: How awesome does this look?

fair

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

The only bad thing is that we have to wait until January next year. Noooooooooooooo!

15844362The Selection changed America Singer’s life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of Illéa, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen–and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she’s made her choice . . . and she’s prepared to fight for the future she wants.

Find out who America will choose in The One, the enchanting, beautifully romantic third book in the Selection series!

Regular readers will probably be well aware of my unashamed fangirling over this series, and the TURMOIL I was in when the UK release was put back…and back…and back. It got to the point where I didn’t care anymore. I was over it. I didn’t even want to read it anymore.

And then it turned up on my doorstep, and all was forgiven. LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS.

I’m only six chapters in at the moment, but I’m seriously, sadly hooked again. Oh Maxon, how I’ve missed you.

I could say more, but time writing this, is time away from Maxon.

Swoon-o-rama!

The One (The Selection #3) is out now.

An Unfortunate Series of Events….AKA Fangirling Fail

Regular readers will know how excited I was to get my hands on The One (The Selection #3). Excited might be a bit of an understatement. I was gagging for it, fangirling over it, waiting for Maxon to arrive at my door, AND I’M STILL WAITING.

Let me tell you the story…

15844362

The One, was due to be released on May 6th. I pre-ordered it from Amazon, mainly for ease and because I knew it would be cheaper than if I went to Waterstones (the only bookshop in town). Oh, and also because you could send off for a The One keyring with your pre-order receipt. Yes, I am 12 years old (I’m not really).

I knew it wouldn’t arrive on the day it was released. I expected that. But I did expect it the week later, at the latest. It did not arrive. I was sad.

I was even more sad that EVERYONE WAS POSTING REVIEWS OF IT (not that it’s you lovely people’s fault of course) and I had failed to even get a copy.

So I tracked my order.

Not Yet Dispatched, it said.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! I said.

Expected Arrival Date: 17th June, it said.

WTAF, I yelled.

Cancel, I pressed. It will be in the shop, I thought. Amazon is clearly just being rubbish.

It was now about 10 days since The One was supposed to have been released. So I ventured into Waterstones. Nothing. I tried not to sound too distraught when I asked the nice Waterstones girl if they knew why it wasn’t in stock yet. She looked at me a bit weird when she typed it in, can’t blame her. I could pretend it’s for my imaginary 8 year old girl, I thought – it’s plausible – but I resisted.

It’s been pushed back, she said. It’s not out until June.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I wailed inside. I probably shouldn’t have cancelled my Amazon order, I thought.

I was not happy. But what can you do.

So, America (the country, not the character!) and who ever else managed to get a copy, I hate you all. And I haven’t read any of your reviews in case there are spoilers.

But, you know what? IT’S ALL OK, because we are also getting a prequel!!! Eeeek. It’s not due until December, but clearly, I’m getting used to waiting for things!

There’s always a silver lining. Let the fangirling commence.

PrintBefore America Singer’s story began, another girl came to the palace to compete for the hand of a different prince….

Don’t miss this digital original novella set in the captivating world of Kiera Cass’s #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series. This prequel story takes place before the events of The Selection and is told from the point of view of Prince Maxon’s mother, Amberly. Discover a whole new Selection with this inside look at how Maxon’s parents met—and how an ordinary girl named Amberly became a beloved queen.

Friday Feature – Let’s Fangirl for a Second

I had a a proper post all planned out for today’s feature – with notes and everything – but then I saw that the cover reveal for Throne of Glass #3 came and went yesterday and it got me excited/distracted!

The ToG books, not to be confused with GoT which I kept calling it at first, is becoming one of my favourite series. I haven’t found them perfect reads by any means, but the protagonist Celaena Sardothien is so awesome I’d probably read about her painting her nails and still enjoy it! Not to mention how pretty they are…and you should all know by now that pretty book covers will eventually be my downfall.

So here are the two covers revealed on the Throne of Glass Fb page yesterday. They may be pretty similar but I still think we Brits get the better one! In your face America. Ahem.

tog

And while I’m in fangirl mode, guess what’s coming out in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS….

….THE ONE (The Selection #3), OBVS!

FINALLY!!!

Friday Feature: Book Fun with Barbies

I had a whole feature planned for today until I checked this month’s blog stats and seriously guys, people have been going crazy over anything I’ve posted about Kiera Cass’ forthcoming book, The One.

So, then I thought (as I’m stupidly excited about it too), that I’d do a ‘lets all get excited, with a summary so far’ post….which I was just about to start when I remembered the HILARIOUS reenactment with Barbies that Epic Reads did.

Epic Reads, I applaud you. It really is something.

If you haven’t read any of The Selection series but want to, this video will tell you EXACTLY what happened in the first book so I wouldn’t recommend watching it. But if you have read them, or frankly don’t care, you are in for a treat if you’ve not seen it yet! SRSLY.

It’s brilliant right?

Well, the book fun with Barbies doesn’t end there. As with most awesome things on the internet people have jumped on the bandwagon and I found a whole host of Barbie reenactments.

Like this Trailer for The Hunger Games…

And then I came to this. A pretty offensive parody of Twilight which I probably shouldn’t laugh at but when Edward sees Bella and pukes on her I couldn’t help do a LOL.

Now I really want to play out my favourite books with Barbies. Shame I got rid of them about 20 years ago.

The One is released May 6th, and The Selection Stories was out on Feb 4th. How have I not bought it yet!?

Happy Weekend Everyone!

New for 2014: Friday Feature

Last year I did a weekly ‘Favourites Friday’ post in which I looked at my favourite books and/or authors. For 2014 I’ve decided to tweak it a little and rename as Friday Feature as that that way I can open it up to post about anything that takes my fancy.

Many of the posts will still be about my favourite books but this way I can feature other things (hopefully) of interest too.

Are we in?

That’s about as far as I got though, so I don’t really have a feature lined up for today. Mainly because I’ve been watching a lot of tennis.

But, please do excuse me while I fangirl for a second….

Yesterday, The guys behind The Selection facebook page released a sneak peak (albeit a very small peak) of The One, due to be released May 6th.

Want it?

No one will know. And seeing as you were with the prince, I won’t ask questions. Whatever you did, I’ll trust it was something important.”

Oh yes, I’m sure whatever she did was VERY important!

AND…

Today is the title reveal for Throne of Glass #3. Watch this space.

Exciting.

I want that cape SO HARD!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Premiere!

Thanks to two awesome friends of mine (LOVE YOU GUYS!) I was able to go to the World Premiere of Catching Fire and the aftershow party on Monday, and IT WAS AWESOME.

I was famously not a huge fan of the first film, but who’s gonna turn down an opportunity to walk down the red carpet?? Err no one, obviously. And I must say, the film was soooooooooo much better than the first one and now I feel like I was maybe a bit harsh about it, but the book is just so perfect!

A few things that happened:

  • We decided to walk around the red carpet twice and it was in no way because we went the wrong way. Honest.
  • The J-Law looked beautiful in a long red coat…not huge on the short hair though.
  • I actually enjoyed the film. Hurrah!
  • The aftershow party was at The Royal Court of Justice which is STUNNING. I have never been plied with so much free booze and food before in my entire life. We only meant to stay for a little while. I got home at 4am.
  • I had to try really hard to not lose my shit over McFly/ McBusted. Especially Dougie, even if he did look stupid in his hat.
  • I may or may not have ‘accidentally’ brushed past Danny McFly on my way to the toilet. I did not need the toilet.
  • GALE WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND 😦 But Finnick was EVERYWHERE.
  • I spotted the geeky guy From Atlantis, no one else had any idea who he was.
  • Too much Champagne.
  • All in all, a successful night of fangirling was had. And we somehow managed to not embarrass ourselves…I think.

The night in pictures:
I didn’t want to be *that* person so I didn’t take many photos but here are some I managed to snap.

The Night in Tweets:

So usually I would do a post ranting about the how film is not as good as the book. But I’m not going to this time. I’m going to try and embrace it. See, I can grow as a person! That, or I’m just too hungover.

*Fangirl Alert* The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass 0.1 – 0.5) Coming Soon!

Ahhhh in a similar vein to fangirl excitement over the collection of The Selection Novellas being released next year, Sarah J Maas will follow suit by releasing her collection of Throne of Glass Novellas in print for the first time on March 13th. I need these in my life nowwwwww!

Watch this space for the cover reveal on Wednesday.

Who’s with me!??

*Fangirl Alert [pt 2]* Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

So, I know it’s not book related but if you haven’t noticed by now, Joss Whedon of Buffy fame is my hero. He is a genius, end of.

I just watched the pilot episode of SHIELD and…oh my…it was AWESOME. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about a TV series set in the Avengers world but not actually starring The Avengers, I thought it might have just been cashing in on the (well deserved) popularity of the recent film, but I was wrong.

Remember when Heroes was crazy amazing? THAT PLUS WHEDON = Explode.

OK now that’s out of my system, normal book-fangirling can resume!
